FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Cathy Hollenbeck Being a part of the work force doesn’t have to include daycare, a different wardrobe or a long commute! Hired @ Home The Christian Mother’s Guide to Working from Home Being a part of the work force doesn’t have to include daycare, a full work wardrobe and a long commute—nowadays it is easier than ever for women to work from home. Freelance writer and work-at-home mom Sarah Hamaker is ready to help Christian moms in all stages of life discover the opportunities and juggle the responsibilities of at-home work in her book, Hired @ Home. As a committed Christian, Hamaker is eager to help other women find balance in their family and professional lives. She not only guides women through the stages of envisioning, starting and working in a successful at-home job or business, she also helps each woman think through the impact working at home will have on her family. Through prayer, scriptural passages and conversations with other Christians, Hamaker urges women to explore the various callings God has for their lives. She helps them to think deeply about their responsibilities and to evaluate their family, financial and personal situation to see if working at home is right for them. “Every woman can work from home, but each one has to figure out if she can do it at this stage of her life,” says Hamaker. For those who decide to give work at home a try, Hamaker has dozens of ideas for businesses or at-home employment. She helps moms steer clear of scams and offers the latest trends for jobs and businesses with growth potential. "Education and health services are two big areas—for instance you could be a tutor for special needs kids or work as a medical transcriptionist,” explains Hamaker. “Hospitality services are also on the rise, with opportunities to work as a landscaper, cook, quilter or crafter. Anything that people might not want to do in their leisure can be turned into a home-based business.” Hamaker further directs women through the challenges of starting a new business or working as an at-home employee, including setting up a home office, complying with tax laws and other legal mandates, and maintaining time for their spouses, children and themselves in the midst of working at their job or business. “Having a daily schedule, however loose, will help you to find the time to work from home and still keep up with your family obligations and housework,” writes Hamaker. “On Sunday evening before bed, review the coming week’s schedule. This will help you focus on what needs to be done versus what can perhaps be postponed if you find you need extra time to work on a project." As a complement to her research and experience, Hamaker includes profiles of over 40 work-at-home moms whom she interviewed for Hired @ Home. Each woman explains how she transformed her previous profession, talents or interests into viable, at-home employment and shares the joys, challenges and wisdom that come with being a full-time mom who is also working at home. "When I started my research, I wasn’t sure whether I would find anyone working at home beyond freelance writers like myself and crafters,” says Hamaker. “But I interviewed lawyers, scientists, teachers—women from so many different careers who have found ways to work at home. The stories of these women in the book show that anyone can work from home.” ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sarah Hamaker is a professional writer and editor, who worked for two national trade associations in Washington, DC before starting a family.
